Since the gang at Paramount wants to rush through this years Deep Space Nine schedule and get the show over and done, why cant they have some respect for the dead?
No, not Gene Roddenberry Voyager is sacrilege enough but those characters from DS9 and Next Generation with a chance of another guest shot? Bringing a few of them from the Gamma Quadrant Green Room certainly wouldnt hurt any continuity here, and might wrap up a few loose ends.
So, in some particular order, the nominees are:
Q (John DeLancie). If he can exist in his own continuum, cant we at least see him one more time? Maybe hes too busy raising the kid (the result of his last foray with Voyager), but maybe we could have one more fling with the cosmic kibitzer.
Thomas Riker (Jonathan Frakes). The last thing we knew, poor Tom had a one-way ticket to a Cardassian penal colony long before the Dominion showed up to form the Funny Nose alliance. For a while, the Cardassians buddied up to the Federation, so did they ever get Tom back? Given that the character showed up in DS9 and NG, isnt it logical to find out?
Vash (Jennifer Hetrick). Another DS9/NG crossover character who hasnt been seen for some time. (Shes the archaeologist in the Indiana Jones/swashbuckling style who had a hot time with Captain Picard.) Cant we have another shady deal with Quark?
Lwaxana Troi (Majel Barrett). Maybe theres a feud or something with Mrs. Roddenberry, given the production of Earth: Final Conflict as a competitor to the Star Trek empire. What else is keeping the almost-mother-in-law from Hell from revisiting DS9? How about butting in on the Odo/Kira romance, for one?
Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Ol Baldy actually showed up twice on DS9 in its first season, so its not a stretch. However, the crew of Voyager will probably find D.B. Cooper and Jimmy Hoffa before Picard comes back to Bajor.
Admiral Tomalak (Andreas Katsulas). The only continuing villain in NG, he should be hanging around waiting to fight the Dominion. With the finale of Babylon 5, Mr. Katsulas should be available for a few rounds.
Sela (Denise Crosby). Now that the Romulans are, well, kinda friendly, doesnt it make sense to bring their hybrid human to the front lines for some action? Imagine the scenes with Worf, considering Selas treachery with the Duras sisters, speaking of which. . .
Lursa (Barbara March) and BEtor (Gwynth Walsh). So what if they got blown to pieces in the first NG movie? Say that they had some bizarre escape pod or something; after all, they appeared on DS9 early in the series. Barring that, have them pop into a wormhole and give em to Janeway on Voyager for a few shows. (The Klingon Kleavage would, at least, take attention away from Seven of Nine.)
Captain Morgan Bateman (Kelsey Grammar). How could the captain of the USS Bozeman adjust to a 90-year gap in time ("Cause and Effect," NG)? Its not all that bad, given all the fiddling with time and alternate universes on DS9. Maybe he could have a drink in Quarks with the Malcorian scientist from NG, Lanel (Bebe Neuwirth), and, of course, Morn.
Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg). The casting might halt production of the new Hollywood Squares for a few weeks, which would be an immeasurable public service.
Ensign Sito (Shannon Fill). Trivia buffs will recall this Bajoran who got her hand slapped when Wesley Crusher and fellow cadets tried a banned flying maneuver at Starfleet Academy. She subsequently appeared on NG and volunteered for a dangerous assignment, and disappeared in space. Of course, we could bring back the ringleader of the flying cadets, Nicholas Locarno. Two problems: Starfleet threw him out of the academy (bad boy), and the actor that played him already has a job (Robert Duncan McNeill, Paris on Voyager).
Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton). Since hes traveling in time and space, DS9 would be a nice stop. (Or Voyager, for that matter.) Heck, he may even be one of the prophets.
Lt. Commander Shelby (Elizabeth Dennehy). Political correctness allows for a description of, ah, the most-fulsome wearing of a Starfleet uniform. (Shes the officer who irritated William Riker in "The Best of Both Worlds" on NG.) Since she became chief officer in charge of rebuilding the fleet after the first Borg encounter, she could come to pressure Sisko into taking a starship command. (This would also fulfill the prophets decree when they destroyed the Dominion fleet last year that Sisko wouldnt find his home on Bajor, contrary to his wishes.)
Vice-Admiral Alynna Nechayev (Natalia Nogulich). Remember the Starfleet officer who showed both Picard and Sisko that theres plenty of political ugliness behind the scenes? Itd be a nice touch to bring her back and kill her off.
Professor James Moriarty (Daniel Davis). Probably one of the most-fun sideshows on NG. Bringing Sherlock Holmes nemesis to DS9 might allow for some fun in battling the Dominion. Maybe its time to team Barclay (Dwight Schultz) and Rom for this one.
Montgomery Scott (James Doohan). Remember that hes got that shuttlecraft from NG and still tools around the stars. The episode would need to be shown in letterbox format to get all of Scotty on the screen, however.
