The LA Times had a short Q&A with Brent Spiner (Data) on Sunday, Dec. 6. He didnt reveal much, except that his first movie role was a bit part in Stardust Memories, and that hed like to work with Stanley Tucci (Big Night, The Imposters).
Other than that, he is also amazed that nobody wants Jonathan Frakes (Riker) to direct anything but Star Trek movies, and his secret ambition is to play Groucho Marx in a movie.
Id say I have to agree with Ol Yellow Eyes about Mr. Frakes. You only have to look at whats my absolutely favorite all-time, all-series episode: "Cause and Effect."
I swore in the first 10 minutes that this would be one that wouldnt hold a second viewing.
I think Ive seen it eight times, and what makes the viewing so compelling is the direction. When everyone starts calling out the cards that Data deals in the third card game, with the close-ups of faces with an incredible balance of compulsion, astonishment and shock . . . now thats directing.
Dont know if youre bothering to watch, but were dismayed that Paramount doesnt feel the need to even run a sub-plot during the episodes for the last season of Deep Space Nine.
Maybe theyre saving on actors fees or something, or else Mark Alaimo is getting a lot of air time for a Gul Ducat action figure that didnt make it to store shelves.
The fact that next weeks episode is from several years ago, and includes Terry Farrell, is pretty much an admission that theyre playing out this year to get some more episodes in syndication.
And, hell, whatever happened to John DeLancie? Aint there no more Q Continuum, even in the ST movies?
